Introduction to Web Design (AR-217)

SYLLABUS PROJECT BRIEFS

Our exploration of current trends, history, techniques and tools used for the web sets a foundation for folks living in our tech-savvy world. The class centers around a series of applied projects that introduce key concepts and practices in current web design. Most notably, we discuss and address designing accessible websites throughout the semester. Using a mix of design exercises, coding and software demonstrations, and design critiques we investigate design principles and practices for screens. In order to gain a strong understanding of the medium, the course touches on writing HTML/CSS code by hand (in a text editor) while using original designs to explore creating experiences of different sizes: a single framed landing page, a scrolling single-page microsite, and a systemized, multipage website.
